The kindness of strangers.
It can be a powerful thing. I'm a great believer in the concept. I do believe what goes around, comes around -- eventually. If not here and now, elsewhere, in another age.
This works with both, the negative and the positive. And while this certainly isn't a novel idea, it is easily forgotten what especially positive input can do. A genuine compliment will not be forgotten. Looking at my own life and the experiences I've had, it's quite clear that what sticks out are the incidences where it did get personal. If just for a moment, a split second even. Some stranger, semi-stranger or aquaintance, saying or doing something simple but profound that will not be forgotten; that can sustain you in moments of self-doubt and feelings of inadequacy. It has to be genuine. But if it is, and detecting the difference is easy with some experience, it can be extremely powerful. Once when I was a preteen, someone from another country told me in broken language that I had the most beautiful cat eyes they had ever seen, after they had watched me at a public swimming pool. It's something I never forgot.
Sometimes I think people appear and disappear for you according to some pre-meditated cosmic plan being fulfilled. |

So I am someone who is constantly striving for balance in all things.
Giving and receiving. Cause and effect.
Duality and balance in everything.
This does not apply to opinions and "life" concepts as I can be very judging, opinionated, or *very* one-sided and black and white myself when it comes to what I want, need, judge, or perceive.
The problem is that keeping the balance right is a struggle that -- somewhere inside -- goes on constantly. Nothing escapes me. The slightest tendencies and most hidden agendas will be noticed. Then, I weigh things, analyze them and finally, judge accordingly.
In interpersonal dealings, this makes a lot of people come up short. Because so many are either one thing or the other. Givers or takers. Leaders or followers.
I have come to the realization that I *still* don't deal with these extremes very well. |

Teriyaki-Avocado burger from Rascal's for lunch today. I'm not a great meat eater, especially red but this is just absolutely delicious. Hate their plates but like the burger -- picky as ever. :P Also have a side of plain rice with teri/soy sauce which will be tonight's dinner. This is attempt to get back on some type of normal eating schedule, sans any fast food!!! Wish me luck, I need it.

Bouncy mood tonight after a long sleep, a sinful dinner, too much C2 soda and lots of Amr Diab. The man's voice flows like honey and a language like Arabic can take it. It makes me envision all kinds of sexy things involving certain locales and characters. Still fighting the urge to give in to the more local temptations in these regards. Have been staying off The Other Messenger for the same reason -- but today went and responded to an offline message because it's rude not to.
The moon is full and there's a eclipse coming. I feel very "aware" somehow, find myself in that state of highened awareness again that usually brings on things that are best not talked about. Strongly feel the interconnectedness of what is "us", the group of people that matter on a deeper level. H is feeling alone as I type, wide awake and contemplating going out to find some soul to take back home with him on this Friday night. J is slumbering off into dreamland with a smile on his face because he's had a nice day and feels loved today. S is painting. On another continent, N is watching his kids play in the park as he remembers the east-facing beaches of the southern med and all the fun he had with the cute little european girls. B and H are doing the same in the opposite direction with lala as they sit around the dinner table, finally back *home* and having the traditional foods. And there is more. I'm being pulled in another direction by more mundane requests and shall give in to them. |

Watched a quirky yet poignant movie tonight that made me think life is passing me by. And him too -- and even more so, actually. Whatever happened to "a life less ordinary"? I'm having Fernweh and miss the old clique. Must ask why he did not like this movie. I remember him saying he "couldn't identify"? Strange because I can and really felt for the people. The life they were leading almost felt inviting to me. Maybe that is how we are different.

Whirlwind emotions listening to this album. Traditionally it has been the personal empowerment/change your life album. The last time I listened to it frequently was when, after much pondering, I made the decision to end a relationship that had meant a lot to me and had lasted for a long long time - many years. In one way or another, she's always been part of my story. I still love her as much as I did back in the days. I hear she was on local TV recently and this time around, even Papa Turtle was impressed. He used to make fun of her. |

So funny how people just assume things. i could be any so-called race from any place on this planet. I could have been born in the Sahara, the Caribbean or the rainforest. I could be of any descent and have been raised in any country. I could have grown up in Sri Lanka, Surinam or Papua New Guinea. OR ALL OF THE ABOVE. I could have lived in Peru, USA, the Swiss alps, Thailand or Namibia. I could be black, white, brown, red, yellow, green or purple. Or all of these combined. YOU JUST DON'T KNOW. I could be a white muslim or a black christian. Or none of the above. I could have lived with African tribes in Kenya, taught Swaheli in Paris, France or French in Cairo, Egypt. Nobody here knows my story and the stories of those I have associated with. Just another face in the crowd. Except that this one actually has a story. The beauty of the people where the desert meets the rest of the continent stuns me and makes me feel at home. No words will ever describe the love I have in my heart for these people. It's my calling to go, be at least close to it, do something meaningful. I think I have always known that.
  
 
 
I feel very powerless and trapped at the moment. In the perfect universe this is what I would do. Right NOW. Regardless of nay-sayers, worriers, and warnings of doom from the unadventurous -- who will die in the same spot they were born. Ridiculous. I need to get *back* there. And *soon*.
